Press Conference - The Cleveland Plan

On Wednesday, OAPCS CEO and President Bill Sims joined state legislators and other school reform groups in Ohio to support the Cleveland Plan.  Read Bill’s statement below:

Good morning.  My name is Bill Sims and I am here this morning to express the support of the Ohio Alliance for Public Charter Schools for The Cleveland Plan.  We believe in school choice, and Cleveland’s Plan for a portfolio school district with expressed collaboration between the traditional district schools and participating charter schools.  The Cleveland Plan expands school choice for the children and parents of Cleveland.  We stand for school choice.

The Ohio Alliance for Public Charter Schools can genuinely support this plan and still take exception to the authority of the Transformational Alliance that would override the ability of all other sponsors to authorize charter schools within the footprint of the Cleveland district, which is of course current law.  We say kudos to Cleveland for its bold plan to reform Cleveland’s schools.  We support the precept of opt-in for charters that want to be a part of this brave plan and opt-out for those who wish to remain independent.
