Charter Schools in Ohio
When it comes to educating children, one size doesn’t fit all. Yet for decades, parents had few choices for matching their child’s special abilities, need and interests to public education programs. Then came public charter schools, tuition-free, independently operated public schools that are supported by state and federal tax dollars. Currently there are over 300 charter schools in Ohio, with an enrollment that exceeds 90,000 students.
Contact with Charter Schools
As a member of OAPCS you will receive contact information associated with the entire Ohio charter school community including existing schools, schools that have been approved to open, charter school management companies, and sponsors of charter schools. You will also receive an annual charter school directory. This directory lists all the community charter schools currently open in Ohio, as well as sponsors and management companies with full contact information.
Annual Conference Discounts
Once a year the OAPCS hosts a two-day state charter school conference with special registration discounts for member schools. In 2009, this event brought together approximately 500 attendees and featured high-profile keynote speakers such as Kevin Johnson, former NBA great and Mayor of Sacramento, Chester Finn, President of the Thomas B. Fordham Institute and panelists that included Ohio’s Senate President, the State Board of Education, and the state media.
Workshops
OAPCS hosts many workshops throughout the calendar year focused on performance management, student achievement, board governance, and state and federal accountabilities as well a grant opportunities. As a member of OAPCS you will be
able to register for these events at discounted rates.
Group purchasing
As a member of OAPCS you are eligible to take advantage of many group purchasing options with Staples, Hertz Furniture, School Specialty, Hertz Car Rental and many others throughout the year. Savings through some of these benefits can more than cover the costs of membership in the OAPCS.
Website Presence
The content-rich OAPCS website includes all school members with a Web link to your website.
Newsletter Presence
OAPCS publishes an Insight Online-newsletter. This is distributed to OAPCS members only.
Exposure
Each month a vendor is highlighted with contact information and a brief summary of services/products. Also, two charter schools are highlighted each quarter giving other charter schools an opportunity to see best practices in practice in other charter schools throughout the state.

Advocacy
OAPCS has staff devoted to promoting the interests of charter schools. By doing this type of work, OAPCS ensures that charter schools and their students receive fair and equitable treatment as public schools as they continue to strive to for excellence. OAPCS works year-round with state legislators, schools and parents to ensure these outcomes.
